Servus Servorum Dei
Saint Pope John Paul II; One of the Greatest Suffering Servants of Our Times
“It is suffering, more than anything else, which clears the way for the grace which transforms human souls. Suffering more than anything else, makes present in the history of humanity the force of the Redemption.” Salvifici Doloris, 27

This poem was given to me in prayer when Saint Pope John Paul II passed away in April of 2005. At the time I was in the detox ward for overdosing on alcohol. He assured me that I would need to begin the practice of ‘dying to self’, and learn to suffer well, that I may be given the grace to do God’s will, abandoning my own.
Servus Servorum Dei
O Beautiful Vicar of Christ Resembling His Perfect Sacrifice Your life is an imitation of the One True Holy Victim Though pain racks your bones Your flesh wails with grief Your grace filled spirit never sleeps
Servus Servorum Dei Leading pilgrims on our way Christ Himself appointed you As Keeper of the Keys
From Saint Peter to John Paul He’s promised that He’ll preserve it all The Truth that He came to share with us So we’ll always know the Father Upon this Rock I will build My Church The gates of hell will never prevail
And I will give to thee The Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven What thou shalt bind on earth shall also be bound in Heaven I have prayed for you Your faith shall not fail Go into the world and feed my lambs
For power is given to you By the Lord Our God Most High Let every soul be subject to this power ordained by God The Church has been purchased in His Blood Assenting to Her sound doctrine With hearts full of thanks we offer our prayers So precious to us your passion to serve
